Introducing the New 2.8L Automatic Toyota Land Cruiser 79 to Our Fleet
At Bushlore, we have always trusted the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 as a reliable and robust partner for exploring Africa’s most challenging terrains. Over the years, it has built a reputation for toughness, resilience, and comfort in even the harshest environments. But now, we are proud to introduce a new evolution of this trusted vehicle to our fleet — the Land Cruiser 79 2.8L Automatic. Now, this new engine will be available in the CruC2, CruC4, and CruCAM models, delivering improved performance, power, and comfort for your adventures.
While the Land Cruiser has been a staple of our fleet, this latest model takes it up a notch with several key upgrades that will enhance your driving experience.
What’s New?
The most notable change in this new model is its 2.8L automatic engine, a major improvement over the previous 4.2L engine and even a step ahead on the 4500 V8 variant. The new 2.8L engine brings greater fuel efficiency and improved power, without sacrificing any of the vehicle’s legendary off-road performance.
In terms of power output, the previous engine offered 96kW and 285Nm, which was great for the rugged terrains of Southern Africa. However, the new 2.8L diesel engine now boasts 150kW and 500Nm of torque, providing not just more power but also better torque, making it ideal for off-road driving and long-distance journeys alike.
Additionally, the new model comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, an upgrade from the former 5-speed manual gearbox. This makes driving more comfortable, especially for clients not used to handling a manual transmission, and it improves fuel efficiency across long distances. The latest refined automatic transmissions also improve the vehicles offroad capabilities by providing immediate torque and smooth gear changes which assists with driving in thick sand.
Advantages to the new 2800 Land cruiser 4×4 power train
Are there any drawbacks to the new 2800 Land cruiser 4×4 models?
The traditional Land cruiser 4200D which was used for decades has one big advantage over any other model currently available and that is it is mechanically driven with minimal electronics. This gives it an advantage when you are travelling to very remote areas in Africa. Spare parts are everywhere, and the engine is well known throughout Africa which gives a level of comfort that you will have support if needed. In addition it has proven reliability while the newer models must still be tested under our hostile terrain and conditions found in many parts of Africa.
Lastly in areas like the Botswana Okavango Delta where water crossings are common the 4200D has a big advantage in that it does not have the electronics which are at risk from water. Electronics and water do not like each other so one must be more careful when driving through water crossing with the new 2800 Land cruiser or just about any other model besides the 4200D. Recommended wading depth must never be exceeded.
