KGALAGADI & AUGRABIES FALLS
Depart Johannesburg
Day 1 –Van Zylsrus – Kgalagadi Guest House Campsite (+-7 Hours from Johannesburg)
At Kgalagadi Guest House in Van Zylsrus, experience the timeless beauty and tranquility of the Kalahari. Contrast the creature comforts of modern living with the stark desert landscapes to create wonderful memories.
Day 2 – Kgalagadi National Park Twee Rivieren Camp grounds (Entrance into the Park)
Twee Rivieren is the Park’s largest rest camp and administrative headquarters. It is situated on the banks of the Dry Nossob Riverbed. Activities and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas. Twee Rivieren has a reception, shop, fuel, restaurant, information centre and swimming pool. This is the only camp with 24 hrs electricity and cell phone reception.
Day 3, 4 and 5 – Nossob Campsite
Nossob offers visitors to the Kgalagadi 2 Guesthouses, a range of cottages and camping sites to suit a variety of tastes and budgets. Nossob Rest Camp is situated within the dry riverbed of the Nossob. The camp is surrounded by tree savannah and is famous for spectacular predator sightings. The camp has a reception, swimming pool, predator information centre, shop and fuel facilities. A generator provides electricity for 16.5 hrs per day. No phone reception is available at the camp which ad to the tranquillity and peaceful atmosphere at Nossob. Nossob is 3,5 hrs drive from Twee Rivieren.
Day 6 – Mata Mata Rest Camp
The camp is situated on the banks of the Auob River on the western boundary of the Park. The camp borders Namibia and is surrounded by thorny Kalahari dune bushveld. Giraffe, typically adapted to these arid conditions are a favourite sight around Mata-Mata. The camp has a reception, swimming pool, shop and fuel facilities. A generator provides electricity for 16.5 hrs per day and there is no telephone or cellphone reception.
Day 7 and 8 – Bitterpan Wilderness Camp or similar
Elevated above the red sand dunes of the Kalahari and suspended in time is Bitterpan – an exclusive, stilted camp overlooking a waterhole. Bitterpan is situated in the center of the wilderness opening up a new 4×4 route through the Kalahari dunes. It is strictly a 4×4 route, but BIG 4×4’s such as Unimogs (heavy vehicle 4×4) are not allowed.
Day 9 and 10 – Augrabies Falls National Park (+- 4 hours from Kgalagadi NP Entrance)
In the dry Northern Cape, amidst rocks, waterfalls, and undulating rivers, lies a place that the Khoi people call Aukoerebis; the place of the Great Noise. The surroundings look as though they are frozen in time, the rocky landscapes filling the imagination with ideas of how the earth once was. This is the place to gaze into the abyss and get lost in the calming roar of nature. Augrabies National Park is in one of the most remote places of the Northern Cape and many guests prefer to drive there, following the N14. Its location makes it the perfect place to stop off when going to or coming from the Kgalagadi National Park.
Day 11 – Kuruman (+-4 Hours drive) – Red Sands Country Lodge Campsite
The Lodge offers a thatched reception, pool bar, wedding hall and restaurant building with renowned continental a-la-carte restaurant, serving some of the best food in the area. Situated in a 1800 ha private nature reserve with 17 different game species. Guests are welcome to explore the reserve with their own vehicle or discover our bush trails on foot or by mountain bike. Red Sands is a bird watcher’s paradise with over 50 different species identified on our property. Red Sands is ideally located between Kuruman and Kathu, offering an excellent stop-over point.
Day 12 – Head back to Johannesburg
