Thobolos is approximately 2 hours from Kasane on the road to Savuti. We are always looking for alternatives to Savuti camp which often has availability issues. This will be the closest camp to Savuti from the north even though it is still about 2 to 2.5 hours game / 4×4 drive from Savuti. It is only 10 kilometres from the end of the tar road at Kachikau and is well sign marked.

The road is thick sand, strictly 4×4 only and well away from any human disturbance so you still get a complete wilderness feel.

Thobolo’s Bush Lodge offers fairly basic lodge rooms and nice campsites with a nice central area and raised balcony which overlooks two pans which attract large numbers of wildlife. This area can be used by campers and lodges at their leisure and there is an honesty bar available as well as restaurant facilities.

We had a great 2 nights stay at this lodge, game viewing included 2 young male lions at first light, many elephants, large herd of Buffalo, general plains game and very good raptors. An elephant had died on the other side of the pans which attracted a large number of vultures and marabou storks.

The campsites are of a high standard when compared to most in Botswana, clean ablutions and hot water with enough space between sites to allow for some privacy. Shade may be a slight issue in the hotter months and it would be nice for them to add a pool which is on the plans at some stage.

We felt the cost of the lodge to be on the high side even for Botswana. The camp fees are also on the high side but they are justified due to the location and the fact that you have access to the lodge area. The food served was good but nothing to fancy.
